Ridgman 2018 minutes of the meeting

Committee meeting. The Crossing, St Peter’s Church, St Albans. 17:00, 16 June, 2018.

Present: Tom Scase, Suffolk, Melissa Nash, Cambridge University, Vicki Chapman, Essex, Chris Turner, Lincoln, Phillipa Whittington, Bedfordshire, Alban Forster, Ely, Ann Evans, Hertfordshire, Alan Winter, Secretary.

The meeting opened at 16:50. All competing teams were represented.

The minutes were approved as circulated, nem con.

Comments on the organisation: All were very happy with the running of the day. The provision of tea and cakes was welcome, and the arrangement had worked well.

Next year’s competition: having regard to the dates of University terms we agreed provisional dates of 15 June 2019 and 20 June 2020. Lincoln would like to act as hosts at Boston but this would not be possible in 2019, similarly for the Bedfordshire Association at Biggleswade where 2020 would be preferred over 2019. The Suffolk Association offered to enquire for the Norman Tower in 2019 and we strongly welcomed this suggestion. On consensus there was a mild preference for a morning competition with the first team starting at, say 10-00. However, today’s afternoon timings had worked out well for all.

Method for next year’s competition: The brief discussion re-affirmed the consensus of discussions of earlier years: in this competition it is appropriate to err on the side of simplicity in deciding on what methods to ring, to encourage less experienced ringers to take part. Cambridge Royal was suggested.

There was no further business, and the meeting closed at 17:00.
